Much to our surprise, we've been seeing more alligators around campus. Our son has become fixated on checking Graham pond, outside Graham Hall, regularly to see if there are gators. Pretty much every time we've checked recently there is at least one gator of varying size, such as this fellow, which we saw today:
This is the first time I've seen one somewhere on campus other than Lake Alice, and just recently they've started to appear there, as well - here's a baby gator we saw:
Very strange - for awhile, it seemed the campus was making an effort to keep gators away from the shores of Lake Alice open to the public and anywhere else on campus - at least, that's what the conspiracy theorist in me believed. Now the campus seems to be lousy with its mascot, these days.
Or perhaps its a portent of good tides for a Gator victory against evil rivals, FSU!

Craigslist ad to find the baddest ride in Gainesville
Here's an ad I just posted on Craigslist, under "Items Wanted":
HAVE YOU SEEN THIS CAR???1 (corner of NW 39th avenue and 6th street)
Looking for evidence of super-cool ride I saw this morning, turning east on NW 39th Avenue, at the corner of 6th Street across from Stephen Foster Elementary. Car has tasteful orange and blue metallic paint job with flames going towards the back and Gator logo on at least one side. Only saw car briefly on my way to farmers market (Saturday), and could not stop to get a photo.
If you see this car please take a photo and send it to me! I will put it on my blog about Gainesville and the Gators and give you full credit!
Thank you and have a nice day!

Urban Dictionary Jorts Definitions Relating to UF
I have to do some more research into the origin of the word "jorts" to describe life in Gainesville, Florida, but I thought I'd start by sharing some of Urban Dictionary's definitions for "jorts" as they pertain to the Florida Gators. I do not endorse or agree with any of the definitions, just passing the info along; I will perhaps create my own definition on UD when I am able to express the emotion of "jorts" properly in prose.
3. jorts
jean shorts, such as those worn by male Florida Gator fans at the Georgia-Florida football game.
"Don't talk to him; he's obviously a Florida fan with those jorts he's wearing."
jorks, georgia bulldogs, florida gators, shorts, jeans

6. jorts
Slang for jean shorts. These are most often worn by the fashion illiterate and the fan base of the University of Florida.
Note: This is the correct spelling; see also jhorts.
Hoff: Nice jorts, Snappanutz.
Snapper: Thanks, Hoffa. I was just too hot in my jeans, so I cut them off. I find the look flattering.
jean shorts, denim, gators, steve spurrier, douchebag, lemon party

World's Oldest Budweiser Can Found in Ichetucknee
My friend, Dave, took his lady to the Ichetucknee River while she was in town recently; while swimming, he came across this remarkably well-preserved specimen of a Budweiser pull-top can. Used to be, you could float down the Ichetucknee with a cooler of ice-cold beers but the Park Service put the kaibosh on that activity. Now, all we have are stark reminders of our former glory. I present to you evidence of a bygone era of high Jortsitude.

Haha, another blog!
This is a placeholder for a blog that I'll probably get around to when I retire; probably about the same time I can actually start writing on my red-headed step-child blog, Saturday Morning Cartoons. If you want to see from Gainesville activities, look at The Accidental Environmentalist and you can email me at tmgnordlie@gmail.com with any Hogtown tips and tricks!
